The first event of its kind in the country, combining hot air balloon skydiving and paramotoring, kicked off in the Wadi Rum area of southern Jordan. Running from October 1 to 10, the event features 16 professionals from several European countries, alongside local organizing teams supervising flights over the vast desert region.
Held under the patronage of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority, the event is the first to bring both activities together in the Jordanian desert sky, enhancing Wadi Rum's standing as an adventure tourism destination. The site is famous for its unique rock formations, making it a year-round destination for visitors from within and outside the Kingdom.
Organizers expect the event to provide more than 70 direct local jobs in hot air balloon operation, logistics, and hospitality, supporting the local economy, bolstering workers' skills, and creating opportunities for small business owners surrounding the site.
Officials stated that plans are currently underway to launch an international hot air balloon festival in the summer of 2027, aimed at attracting more foreign visitors and establishing adventure tourism within Jordan's tourism season, alongside traditional tourist activities in the region. This comes as the Kingdom seeks to attract more European tourists and diversify its income sources.
