HubSpot Cuts 660 Jobs and Denies AI Is the Reason
HubSpot says it will reduce its workforce by about 7%, or roughly 660 employees, reorganize its teams around four customer outcomes, and denies that AI is the reason.

In a message to employees on October 6, 2026, HubSpot CEO Yamini Rangan said the company "decided to reduce its team size by about 7%" and that it would "say goodbye to approximately 660 of its employees." Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, HubSpot specializes in customer relationship management software and serves nearly 300,000 customers. The company had previously cut about 7% of its workforce in January 2023, representing nearly 500 jobs.
The company is reorganizing its product teams around four customer outcomes instead of product units: generating demand, winning deals, delighting customers, and expanding growth. Rangan said that "customers do not think in terms of product units and their features," and that the goal is "to reduce management layers and move decisions closer to those executing the work," while reducing fragmented ownership and empowering teams with broader authority. The company did not announce any layoffs, mergers, or re-pricing for its product units.
According to the message, the severance package includes 20 weeks of base pay plus one week for each year of service up to a maximum of 30 weeks, which employees with ten years of service reach. US employees will receive five months of health insurance coverage paid in a single lump sum, while those outside the US will receive similar access to health services, along with six months of career transition support. Affected employees will retain their laptops after company data is wiped from them.
The company denied that the decision was "driven by AI gains" or "just a cost-cutting exercise," and pledged that headcount growth would be slower than revenue growth. The layoffs come amid a wave of reductions across several tech companies this year, including The Trade Desk, which cut about 575 jobs on September 4. For agencies and marketers in the region who build their work around HubSpot, the reorganization aligns products around sales outcomes rather than separate units, a shift that may alter the structure of the packages and tools they interact with later on.
