EGX30 Index Drops 1.99% with Market Capitalization at EGP 4.122 Trillion

The EGX30 index ended Sunday's session, October 11, 2026, down by 1.99%, with the market capitalization of listed shares reaching EGP 4.122 trillion at the close, according to a report by Business Today Egypt.

Yahoo Finance data showed that the index recorded 52,206.7 points, down 2.05%, a reading that differs slightly from the drop rate published by the source without altering the picture of the bearish session.

The decline came on a news-heavy day for the banking sector, led by news of Banque du Caire's intention to offer 30% of its shares on the Egyptian Exchange, an event that heightened anticipation regarding the re-pricing of listed bank stocks.

The difference between the decline percentage and the market capitalization shows that the drop was concentrated in major blue-chip stocks, while the market volume did not decline to the same extent, reflecting selective pressure rather than a broad sell-off.

What Do These Terms Mean?

EGX30: The main index of the Egyptian Exchange, comprising the top 30 companies in terms of liquidity and market capitalization.

Market Capitalization: The total market value of listed shares on the stock exchange, calculated by multiplying the stock price by the number of shares for each company and summing the results.

Blue-Chip Stocks: Large companies with the highest weight in the index, whose movements impact its direction more than smaller stocks.

Trading Session: The time period designated for trading on the stock exchange during the day; the index performance is measured from the close of one session to another.
