SoftBank Group executed on October 1 the third and final tranche of its follow-on investment in OpenAI through "Vision Fund 2," valued at $10.0 billion (equivalent to 1,579.6 billion yen), according to a statement issued by the company, thereby closing the final pending portion of its commitment.

With this, SoftBank completed its full commitment of $30.0 billion, bringing its cumulative total investment in OpenAI to $64.6 billion, giving it an ownership stake of approximately 13% in the company, a stake that places it at the forefront of institutional investors in the firm.

The company stated that the payment was funded by proceeds from foreign currency bonds announced on September 24, a financing arranged just a few days prior to the tranche execution, indicating that the company had prepared in advance to settle the final portion rather than relying on its operational liquidity.

The investment reflects the scale of capital heading toward advanced artificial intelligence labs at a time when companies are competing to build computing capabilities and larger models, a race closely watched by investors in the Arab region, where investments in tech infrastructure and cloud computing projects are growing. The cumulative size of the investment underscores that private funding has become a pivotal element in developing advanced models.
