Qatari artificial intelligence company Alligator has raised $1.2 million, equivalent to QAR 4.3 million, in a seed funding round. The round was led by Qatar Development Bank and the Next Ventures fund affiliated with Media City Qatar, with participation from undisclosed private investors. Founded in Doha in 2025 by Ali Abbas, the company develops autonomous AI agents that write and distribute press materials, monitor media, match journalists with media outlets, and manage communication campaigns.

The company stated that the proceeds of the round will be directed toward product development, hiring in engineering, AI research, and commercial deployment, as well as expanding across the Gulf countries and the Middle East and North Africa region. The models developed by the company automate press office and media tasks—activities that are predominantly manual in startups and small organizations lacking specialized communication departments.

In the same context, the funding comes amid a rising wave of Gulf investment in local AI startups, as government funds and entities affiliated with media cities expand funding for early-stage companies rather than limiting themselves to major enterprises. Qatar Development Bank's participation in the round signals institutional support for the company, while Next Ventures' connection to Media City Qatar offers potential access to a network of organizations and regulatory bodies in the sector.

This means that the company is building tools tailored for an Arab media market with a growing need to produce content faster and at lower costs—a trend that allows small teams to compete with large institutions. The key challenge facing this type of company remains converting automated writing tools into recurring revenue, a test dependent on the quality of Arabic output compared to English and the degree of client trust in AI-generated content.
