Investors are awaiting the release of the Federal Reserve's September meeting minutes on Wednesday at 2:00 PM Eastern Time, seeking clearer details on the path of interest rates over the coming months. The Fed had raised interest rates by 25 basis points in September in a unanimous decision.

Projections accompanying the September decision indicate one additional rate hike in 2026, with eight participants seeing at least two increases, six participants seeing one increase, while four participants expected a cut. Markets are currently pricing in a less than one-in-four chance of a rate hike at the October meeting.

Both Williams and Jefferson said there is no need to rush to raise interest rates, while Bowman prefers not implementing any additional hike during 2026, and is scheduled to speak on Tuesday.

Analysts believe the risks are asymmetric prior to the release of the minutes; dovish minutes would reinforce the recent repricing and ease pressure on short-term bond yields and the dollar, while hawkish minutes could reprice a rate hike in October.

What do these terms mean?

Meeting minutes: The official, detailed record of the Open Market Committee's discussions and member votes, released weeks after the meeting.

October meeting: The upcoming meeting of the committee that sets US interest rates, which investors expect will discuss holding or raising interest rates.

Basis points: A small unit of measurement for interest rates or yields, where 100 basis points equal one percent.

Short-term bond yields: The interest paid by Treasury bonds maturing within a few years, directly affected by expectations of Fed decisions.
