Etihad Airways Launches First Flight Between Abu Dhabi and the Red Sea on October 4

Etihad Airways will operate its first flight between Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi and Red Sea International Airport on October 4, making it the airline's sixth destination in Saudi Arabia. This step expands its presence in the Saudi market and increases travel options to the coastal destination, coming as part of a growing trend among regional airlines to connect new tourist destinations with direct routes.

Flights will initially operate at a frequency of one flight per week, increasing to two flights per week starting October 25. This gradual approach gives the company an opportunity to gauge demand on the new route before increasing capacity, a strategy typically adopted by airlines when launching any new route.

John Pagano, CEO of Red Sea Global, described the move as an important development in connecting the destination to a leading global aviation network, according to statements attributed to him, as the route opens direct access to the tourism project from the UAE and reduces travel time for visitors coming from new markets.

The new route boosts tourism movement between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, serving development plans for the Red Sea destination aimed at attracting millions of visitors. This brings opportunities for the hotel and service sectors in both countries, supporting the trend of Gulf airlines connecting new tourist destinations via direct routes that reduce travel time and stimulate seasonal demand, at a time when regional airlines are competing to connect major cities with Saudi tourist destinations.
