Kuwait Stock Exchange drops in October's first session as Main Market loses 1.48%
The Premier Market index on the Kuwait Stock Exchange fell 0.59% and the Main Market dropped 1.48%, with market capitalization declining to nearly 52.188 billion dinars.

The Premier Market index on the Kuwait Stock Exchange closed at 9113.60 points, down 0.59% or 54.33 points, while the Main Market index fell 1.48% or 134.95 points to 8959.69 points, recording the session's largest losses. This decline makes the Main Market index the hardest hit during the session, whereas the Premier Market's losses were less severe thanks to its concentration on larger, more stable stocks.
Trading value reached nearly 74.55 million dinars across 236.83 million shares executed through 20,679 transactions—a trading volume indicating notable activity accompanying the sell-off in October's first session. This compares with previous session levels to show that selling pressure was not isolated but spanned multiple sectors.
The exchange's market capitalization fell to around 52.188 billion dinars, with single-session losses reaching about 394.07 million dinars, indicating that selling pressure hit total market value rather than stock prices alone. Market capitalization serves as a measure of the total capital value of listed companies, and its single-session decline directly reflects the drop in prices.
This drop comes at the start of the fourth quarter of the year, as Kuwaiti market participants await listed companies' financial results and macroeconomic data, at a time when Gulf markets are influenced by oil prices and global interest rate trends. The Kuwait Stock Exchange is heavily tied to the energy sector and related companies, making its daily performance linked to global oil market developments and government revenue projections.
