Parallel Systems Raises $100 Million for Autonomous Freight Trains
Parallel Systems has raised $100 million in a Series C round led by AVP to expand manufacturing of its autonomous rail freight vehicles.

Parallel Systems raised $100 million in a Series C round led by AVP, with participation from Hillspire, Agility Global, Cobalt Capital, Anthos Capital, Congruent Ventures, Riot Ventures, and Collaborative Fund, according to TechCrunch.
Founded in 2020 by former SpaceX engineers, the company is developing an autonomous electric rail vehicle named "Panther" that operates on batteries instead of traditional diesel locomotives, an approach based on smaller vehicles operating independently rather than long trains.
The company states that the vehicle can transport several tons of freight up to 500 miles without an operator, opening the door to operating short-haul freight lines with greater economic viability than long, crewed trains.
The funding will be used to scale manufacturing of the vehicle's third generation and accelerate its commercial rollout, as announced by the company, meaning it is transitioning from the development phase to large-scale commercial production.
What do these terms mean?
Series C: A subsequent funding round typically used to scale production and commercial expansion prior to going public.
Autonomous Vehicles: Vehicles that move without a human driver, relying on sensors and software.
Third Generation: The third upgraded version of the product, including improvements in performance and manufacturing.
