German industrial robotics startup RobCo reached a $1 billion valuation in a deal combining new investment with a stock sale worth around $40 million, mostly from employee shares, according to Tech Funding News. The transaction represents a partial exit for employees, granting them cash liquidity from their stakes.
Two new investors joined—Cherry Ventures and European Tech Collective—while names such as Sequoia, Lightspeed, Greenfield, Kindred, Lingotto, and Promus Ventures participated in the deal. The presence of these names reflects established investors' confidence in the company's industrial model. The new funding includes an injection of additional capital into the company alongside the share sales.
Co-founder and CEO Roman Hoelzl said the company has raised nearly $200 million to date. Hoelzl relocated his residence to the United States, which the company describes as its fastest-growing market. The overseas expansion comes as the firm seeks customers beyond Europe.
RobCo manufactures robots used in small and medium-sized factories to automate assembly and inspection tasks, a market long dominated by high-cost systems. The CEO's move to America highlights the company's focus on international expansion. Demand for flexible robotics is growing as factories aim to cut costs and address labor shortages.
