CPP Investments Acquires 27% Stake in Prestige Hospitality for 30 Billion Rupees

CPP Investments announced that it has acquired a 27% stake in Prestige Hospitality in India for 30 billion rupees, in its first direct investment in the Indian hospitality sector. The Indian company retains the remaining ownership stake and will continue to manage its day-to-day operations.

The bulk of the capital will be directed towards an expansion plan across six Indian cities: Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, and Mumbai, encompassing major tourist destinations alongside business hubs. This distribution covers various regions of the country rather than concentrating on a single market, giving the venture a presence across multiple economic zones.

The investment comes at a time when the Indian hotel industry is expanding, as companies seek to increase room capacity in major cities to accommodate growing travel demand—a move requiring long-term capital provided by institutional investors seeking stable returns over years.

The size of the deal reflects a trend among institutional investors toward the hotel sector in emerging markets, driven by the recovery in travel, with a continued focus on high-demand cities and scalable projects rather than seasonal assets.
