Saudi AI Company "Echelon" Raises Funding with Participation from Ben Horowitz
Saudi AI company Echelon has raised an undisclosed funding round from East 40, Raed Ventures, and Avra, with participation from American investor Ben Horowitz.

Saudi AI company Echelon has closed an undisclosed funding round with participation from East 40, Raed Ventures, and Avra, alongside American investor Ben Horowitz and other investors, according to Wamda, a platform specializing in regional startup news.
Headquartered in Riyadh, the company was founded in 2025 by Prince Khalid bin Badr Al Saud. It works on helping companies and government entities select, localize, and deploy AI technologies tailored to their operational needs, as reported by Wamda.
Echelon's services extend across several sectors, most notably energy, government, telecommunications, defense, and healthcare, meaning it targets both the public and private sectors simultaneously, giving it a broader scope than single-sector AI companies.
The company plans to launch its "Frontier" platform and an Applied AI Institute in the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by the launch of "Echelon Defense Industries" in the first quarter of 2027. The company did not disclose the round's value, the details of its funding structure, or the identities of the remaining participating investors.
What do these terms mean?
Funding Round: A stage in which a startup raises money from investors in exchange for equity. Initial rounds are called Seed, followed by Series A and B.
Technology Localization: Transferring technology and adapting it to suit the local market and its needs, rather than importing it off the shelf.
Applied Artificial Intelligence: Using AI tools in practical, sector-specific solutions, such as energy, health, or defense, rather than theoretical research.
