Much of this congestion came as a result of Ocean Network Express (ONE)'s decision to suspend its monthly WIN service, which provided direct transport capacity on this corridor, placing additional pressure on alternative routes and driving up spot freight rates.

Indian and American importing companies reported that spot freight rates on this route have risen significantly in recent weeks, driven by a growing trend toward shifting production from China to India, fueling escalating demand.

This development poses a problem for American companies seeking to diversify their sources away from China, as Indian manufacturers find themselves facing shipping capacity constraints at a time when demand is rising. Analysts expect shipping companies to capitalize on this demand to increase capacity on this route in the coming months, which could help relieve pressure in the medium term.
