Chemical Tanker Hit Near Qatar in First Deep Gulf Attack in a Month

Maritime reports indicated that a chemical and oil products tanker flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda named Acers was struck by multiple projectiles 51 nautical miles north of the Qatari city of Al Shamal around 1900 GMT on October 7, with casualties reported.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) did not attribute the attack to any entity, according to gCaptain, leaving responsibility for the incident undetermined so far.

Reuters counted at least 12 attacks on tankers between September 28 and October 5.

This attack marks the first deep strike inside the Gulf in about a month, signaling a widening scope of attacks on shipping away from the Strait of Hormuz and heightened risks to energy export corridors in the region.
