Gold ETF Flows Turn Positive with $3 Billion, Led by Europe

Global gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attracted net inflows of $3 billion in July 2026, reversing a two-month negative trend, according to a report by the World Gold Council (WGC), pushing assets under management (AUM) up 1% to nearly $530 billion and physical holdings to 4,068 tonnes.

Europe led the way with inflows of nearly $2 billion, driven by the UK with $875 million and Switzerland with $657 million, while Asia recorded $616 million led by China, supported by weak equities and declining domestic yields. In contrast, North American inflows did not exceed $71 million, remaining the only region in a cumulative net loss since the beginning of 2026.

The World Gold Council noted that investors capitalized on the price pullbacks in July as prices approached the $4,000 per ounce level to rebuild their positions, indicating that this level now represents a solid psychological support base for traders.

Europe and Asia serve as the main drivers for 2026 inflows, while North America lags behind despite gold surging to record highs. This US absence from the buying momentum represents a massive reservoir of latent demand that could turn into a sharp buying surge if the Federal Reserve moves to cut interest rates.
