SPDR Gold Shares fund holdings declined to 1,055.70 tonnes as of September 30, down by 1.14 tonnes or 0.11% from the previous week, compared to 1,070.56 tonnes at the end of 2025, indicating that the fund has reduced its holdings since the start of the year. The fund is the largest of its kind globally, with its holdings moving alongside decisions made by major institutional investors.
Cumulative net outflows since the beginning of the year reached $2.02 billion, signaling that some investors scaled back their positions in the yellow metal during this year despite prices remaining at historically high levels.
The last five days recorded net inflows of $81.75 million, significantly lower than the $559.93 million in inflows seen the previous week. The report noted that gold's technical picture deteriorated again as volatility remained elevated, making continued near-term fluctuations likely.
Investors monitor holdings of the largest gold ETFs as a daily gauge of major institutional behavior. Persistent outflows could heighten pressure on prices in the near term, whereas their return reflects new institutional buying that gives the market a bullish boost.
