Samsung to Discuss Shareholder Return Package Exceeding $70 Billion on Friday

Samsung Electronics' board of directors is set to hold a highly anticipated meeting on Friday after market close to discuss a massive shareholder return package exceeding $70 billion (100 trillion Korean won), according to informed sources.

The expected package includes cash dividends and share buyback programs, coming on the heels of a record earnings season for Samsung driven by surging demand for AI chips. However, these gains have not eased investor concerns over a slowdown in AI infrastructure spending.

The announcement comes two days after rival SK Hynix unveiled a similar 40 trillion won ($28.6 billion) package, including share buybacks and treasury stock cancellations, along with a commitment to allocate more than 50% of free cash flow to shareholders between 2025 and 2027.

This trend reveals a strategic shift among Korean memory industry giants — investors are now demanding a larger share of gains from the AI boom, rather than reinvesting them entirely into capital expenditures.
