Xona Deploys 6 Navigation Satellites and Begins Commercial Service Tests

Xona Space Systems deployed six Pulsar satellites into orbit via SpaceX's Bandwagon-5 rideshare mission, paving the way for a commercial navigation service.

The six satellites include four navigation satellites built by Aerospacelab and two experimental satellites developed in-house by Xona, with plans to test a constellation of four independent navigation satellites.

The company expects to begin initial commercial operations in early 2027, prior to expanding the network to 258 satellites targeting continuous coverage for the United States, Europe, Japan, and South Korea by 2028.

The service aims to provide an alternative or backup to current global navigation systems, offering higher accuracy and reduced reliance on government networks—a growing field as reliance on positioning increases across transportation, defense, and agriculture.

What do these terms mean?

Navigation Satellites: Satellites that transmit timing and positioning signals used by devices to accurately determine their location on Earth.

Rideshare Mission: A single launch flight carrying payloads for multiple customers instead of dedicating an entire rocket to a single client, thereby reducing costs.

Satellite Constellation: A network of satellites working together to cover a wide area and provide continuous service.
