Dollar Index Drops 2% From July Highs as Markets Await Fed Minutes and Jackson Hole
The US dollar declined about 2% from its July highs following weaker-than-expected consumer and producer inflation data that eased fears of rate hikes, amid anticipation of the Fed minutes and the Jackson Hole symposium.

The US Dollar Index (DXY) declined to around 99.8 points, remaining nearly flat over the week but down about 2% from its peak recorded in late July at 101.7 points. The decline came after weaker-than-expected consumer and producer inflation data dispelled fears of a potential Fed rate hike, which had been supporting the US currency.
Data released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics showed the annual inflation rate falling to 3.4% in July from 3.5% in June, while the producer price index remained flat on a monthly basis, with an annual increase of 4.7%. This data led to a decline in bets on rate hikes, reflecting downward pressure on the dollar.
Markets are now awaiting the minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee meeting scheduled for release on August 20, as well as the annual Jackson Hole symposium taking place from August 21 to August 22, where Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to speak on the final day of the symposium. According to an analysis published by FXStreet (FXStreet), these two events are expected to determine the direction of the dollar in the coming weeks.
The path of US interest rates remains dependent on the signals these events will reveal regarding the Fed's intentions, at a time when markets remain divided on the timing of any future interest rate move.
