Nvidia Set to Inject $2 Billion in Europe Within a Week

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, speaking in Paris, said the company will announce investments in Europe worth around $2 billion within a week, in addition to $8 billion injected into the continent over the past year, according to a report by The Next Web platform.

Huang named four French startups benefiting from these moves: Doctolib, Genesis AI, Pigment, and Entalpic.

Huang promoted open-source models as being less costly and more flexible for achieving European technological sovereignty, at a time when the continent's nations seek to reduce their reliance on foreign suppliers.

This trend comes as part of US chipmakers' expansion into new markets, amid global competition to build the computing power required to run artificial intelligence models.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Open-source model: An artificial intelligence model made available for anyone to use, inspect, and modify without strict commercial restrictions.

Technological sovereignty: The ability of a country and local companies to control their core technologies without total reliance on foreign entities.

Startup: A newly established company seeking rapid growth, often relying on venture capital funding.

Computing power: The total processing power available to run and train artificial intelligence models.
