Maersk and Hateco Plan $3.5 Billion Railway Project in Vietnam
APM Terminals and Vietnam's Hateco Group signed a memorandum of understanding to build a railway terminal and three container facilities in northern Vietnam with investments of up to $3.5 billion.

APM Terminals, a subsidiary of the Maersk Group, and Vietnam's Hateco Group signed a memorandum of understanding in Copenhagen to build a railway freight terminal network in Vietnam, with initial investments reaching up to $3.5 billion.
The proposed network includes a railway freight terminal in Haiphong and three container facilities in northern Vietnamese provinces, aiming to connect industrial zones, logistics hubs, and production areas to major transport hubs.
The agreement was signed during Vietnamese President To Lam's visit to Denmark, where he also met with officials from companies including Lego, Carlsberg, and Pandora. No timeline for construction or completion was announced, nor were details released regarding the project's financing.
Maersk is already working with Hateco on a $400 million container terminal project in Haiphong, and is expanding its investments in other joint ventures, including the Lien Chieu terminal in Da Nang. Vietnam hopes these projects will support its goal of double-digit economic growth.
What Do These Terms Mean?
