The US dollar closed Sunday's trading in Egyptian banks near 52.22 EGP for buying and 52.36 EGP for selling, according to the Central Bank of Egypt. The dollar remains at these levels, maintaining its position above the 52 EGP threshold. The Central Bank announces reference exchange rates at the end of each trading session.

The two state-owned banks, National Bank of Egypt and Banque Misr, recorded around 52.24 EGP for buying and 52.34 EGP for selling, according to announced rates. These levels are close to the Central Bank's reference rates during the session. The two state banks are among the largest operating in the market in terms of transaction volume.

Bank rates fell within a narrow, close range, meaning the gap between the highest and lowest announced prices in the banking sector remained limited during trading. This comes after the pound ended last week down by about 1.2% against the dollar. This narrow range serves as an indicator of trading stability during the session.

The exchange rate is one of the most closely watched indicators for consumers and businesses in Egypt, due to its direct link to import prices and the cost of production inputs. Market participants in Egypt closely anticipate any change in exchange rates because of its direct impact on domestic prices. Importers closely monitor these rates as they determine the cost of purchasing goods and supplies from abroad.
