Oman's Re-Exports Register 20% Growth as Sohar Port Volume Increases

The Sultanate of Oman's re-exports registered a remarkable 20% increase compared to last year, while cargo volume through Sohar Port jumped by 52%, in a strong indication of Oman's growing role as a strategic logistics hub in the region.

Data released by the Omani Public Authority for Investment Promotion revealed that this growth was driven by the expansion of Sohar Industrial Port's handling capacity, alongside rising demand for storage and re-export services from GCC countries and Asian markets.

Port sector officials noted that Oman's geographical location outside the Strait of Hormuz grants it an exceptional competitive advantage, attracting commercial vessels seeking to avoid potential risks in Gulf waters.

These figures fall within the context of Oman Vision 2040, aimed at diversifying income sources away from oil and transforming the logistics sector into a main economic pillar. Experts believe that Sohar Port is now directly competing with major regional ports such as Jebel Ali in Dubai and Khalifa Port in Abu Dhabi.
