Sisi Requests Parliamentary Authorization to Support Saudi Arabia Militarily

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi requested that parliament authorize him to provide potential military support to Saudi Arabia, amid escalating Houthi attacks on the Kingdom, according to media reports.

Parliament is scheduled to hold its meeting on Sunday, October 18 to discuss the request, in a step that requires the approval of lawmakers before becoming an effective decision.

Sisi stated that Egypt will not accept any threat to security in the Red Sea, a vital waterway for Egypt through which a significant portion of global trade and Suez Canal revenues pass.

This development links regional security with economic interests, as commercial and maritime activity in the Red Sea is directly affected by any escalation, which could also reflect on shipping costs and vessel traffic in the canal.
