Aramco develops two more export routes, pledges November supply to Europe

Amin Nasser, CEO of Saudi Aramco, said the company is working on fourth and fifth export routes, and that multiple routes "already reduce the risk of a single bottleneck paralyzing the system," according to a report by Khaleej Times.

Information reported by Reuters from sources indicates that Saudi Arabia is considering expanding the East-West pipeline, which has a capacity of 7 million barrels per day. This serves as an alternative export corridor that reduces reliance on maritime straits for transporting crude, enhancing the Kingdom's ability to continue exporting if any sea lane is disrupted.

Nasser added that Aramco will supply full oil volumes to its European customers next November, a commitment indicating the company's continued fulfillment of long-term supply contracts despite regional tensions in the area.

This direction comes after repeated attacks on shipping near the Strait of Hormuz prompted shipping companies to reassess their routes. Energy market traders are monitoring any expansion in alternative export routes, as it limits the impact of any single passage disruption on global supplies and reduces crude price volatility in futures markets.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Chokepoint: A narrow passage through which oil shipments or trade pass, where any disruption leads to widespread disruption in supply and prices.

East-West Pipeline: A Saudi pipeline transporting crude from eastern fields to Red Sea ports in the west, enabling the bypass of the Strait of Hormuz during export.

Export Capacity: The maximum amount of crude that can be pumped to external markets via a specific corridor within a given period.
