Cybersecurity firm Armadin raised $255.5 million in a Series B funding round co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, at a valuation exceeding $2.5 billion. The company was founded by Kevin Mandia, former CEO of cybersecurity incident response firm Mandiant.

The round comes about seven months after a Series A round that raised $190 million, bringing the total funding raised by the company to over $445 million. The rapid pace of funding rounds in such a short period indicates that investors are betting on the company before it proves profitability, a prevailing pattern today among AI-related cybersecurity companies.

The company operates a platform that manages swarms of autonomous AI agents that continuously scan systems and link low-risk vulnerabilities together to build proven, testable attack paths. This means the system searches for chains of minor flaws that alone are insufficient to breach the system, but become dangerous when chained together.

Everyone building AI systems today faces the same question raised by this round: How to detect the path taken by an AI-powered attacker inside a network before they reach data. Turning this question into a commercial product poses a significant challenge, requiring continuous operation and massive amounts of data, which explains the scale of funding raised by the company.

What do these terms mean?

Series B round: Funding secured by a company after proving product growth, typically used for expansion. Valuation: The estimated market value of the company at the time of the round. Venture capital: Funds invested in high-risk companies in exchange for an equity stake. AI Agent: Software that operates with a degree of autonomy to execute sequential steps rather than merely answering a question. Low-risk vulnerability: A security defect that alone is insufficient to breach a system.
