International Monetary Fund Director of Communications Julie Kozack said that the eighth and final review of Egypt's Extended Fund Facility program is expected to conclude in the fourth quarter of 2026. She added that the third review under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility will be completed at the same time, according to her statements. Kozack's remarks represent the latest signal from the Fund regarding the trajectory of the Egyptian program.
She explained that these two reviews will unlock approximately $2.3 billion for Egypt, at a time when the Extended Fund Facility program expires on December 15, 2026, making the release of the tranche dependent on completing both reviews before this date. This tranche forms the final portion of the financing linked to the current program, making it a key milestone anticipated by both Egyptian and international sides.
The Fund stated that the Egyptian economy has demonstrated resilience despite regional pressures, referring to the continued economic performance under the current conditions in the region. This assessment reflects the Fund's view of the economy's ability to overcome temporary challenges, giving the market an indication of its ongoing support.
This review is an important milestone for Egypt because it determines the release date of the final financing tranche. Investors in the currency and debt markets are awaiting its outcomes, as the path of foreign reserves and the exchange rate, as well as foreign investor confidence in the Egyptian economy, are tied to it.
