Dallas Judge Gives Final Approval to $177 Million AT&T Settlement
A federal judge in Dallas granted final approval to a $177 million settlement for victims of two AT&T data breaches in 2024, including $59 million in attorney fees.

A federal judge in the U.S. city of Dallas granted final approval to a $177 million settlement, resolving consolidated class-action lawsuits related to two breaches of AT&T customer data during 2024.
The settlement amount was divided into two funds: the first is $149 million for the first incident in which personal data leaked to the dark web, and the second is $28 million for the second incident in which account numbers and associated user data were illegally downloaded. The settlement includes $59 million in attorney fees.
The company explained that payments will be tiered based on the proven extent of harm, with estimates ranging between $39 and $40, $7.50 and $8.10, and $6.50 and $7.10, with the possibility of affected individuals who prove direct financial losses receiving amounts up to about $7,500.
AT&T stated that these estimates are preliminary and actual amounts for each member may vary depending on the number of accepted claims. Payments will be disbursed after the appeal period expires and settlement administrators complete the review of claims, as reported by WAND, USA Today, and Mealey's.
What do these terms mean?

Attorney Fees: The percentage deducted by the plaintiffs' attorneys from the settlement amount in exchange for representing them, usually determined by the judge as a percentage of total compensation.
Appeal Period: A legal grace period during which any party can object to or appeal the ruling before it becomes final and disbursement becomes possible.
