Gold Drops 0.5% to $4,120 as Oil Rises and Markets Await the Fed

Spot gold fell 0.5% to $4,120.87 per ounce, and futures contracts for December delivery dropped 0.5% to $4,139.90, according to a report cited by Reuters via Zawya.

The decline came as Brent crude rose to $111.75 per barrel, its highest level since May 20, following attacks targeting Saudi facilities and vessels in the Gulf, raising concerns over continued pressure on energy costs.

Ricardo Evangelista of ActivTrades said high energy prices keep inflation elevated and support expectations of further monetary tightening by the Federal Reserve.

Investors await the Fed's upcoming decision, as rising energy prices increase sensitivity to the interest rate trajectory, while gold searches for a clear direction following the recent wave of volatility.

What do these terms mean?

Spot Gold: The purchase and sale price of gold for immediate delivery, considered the most closely followed benchmark price in the markets.

Futures Contracts: An agreement to buy or sell a quantity of gold at a specified price today with delivery at a later date.

Brent Crude: One of the world's most important benchmark crude oil types, used as an indicator for international oil prices.

Monetary Tightening: Raising interest rates or reducing liquidity to curb inflation, which often reduces the appeal of gold.
