AST SpaceMobile Drops 10.48% Following SpaceX Spectrum Deal

AST SpaceMobile stock closed Friday's session at $50.97, losing $5.97, or 10.48 percent, after trading in a range between $47.57 and $55.85 and falling by as much as 14.6 percent during the session.

The decline followed an agreement announced by SpaceX on October 8 to purchase up to 14 MHz of low-band spectrum in the 800 MHz band, a range that reports indicated AST SpaceMobile was pursuing. Reports noted that SpaceX's deal with Grain Management is valued at approximately $8 billion. This drop comes after a 6.13 percent loss in the October 8 session, bringing the stock's decline to about 63 percent from its peak in May.

In response to the sell-off, the company's CEO Abel Avellan wrote in a post on the "X" platform that the company's network operator partners in the United States hold nearly 1,000 MHz of usable low- and mid-band spectrum via its satellites, in addition to 45 MHz of L-band owned by the company, considering that this enables peak data speeds of up to 200 Mbps.

This development particularly concerns investors in space sector stocks, as AST SpaceMobile's business model relies on partnerships with network operators, making it more vulnerable to changes in the spectrum landscape. Analysts currently hold a consensus recommendation of "Moderate Buy" with an average price target of $86.42, according to 11 analysts.
