The Central Bank of Egypt and the Ministry of Industry have launched a fund to restructure distressed factories with a capital of EGP 1 billion, equivalent to approximately $19.1 million, managed by CI Capital. The fund aims to rescue factories facing financial or operational difficulties that have viable prospects, returning them to production rather than leaving them idle.

Five banks are participating in the fund: National Bank of Egypt, Banque Misr, Arab African International Bank, Agricultural Bank of Egypt, and EBank, enhancing its ability to finance reform programs. The fund acquires stakes in viable distressed industrial companies and works with them to draw up restructuring plans.

Restructuring operations include reorganizing financing, management, and production so that the company returns to operating efficiently and preserves the jobs of its workers. Mohamed El Sewedy, head of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, chairs the fund's investment committee, adding industrial expertise to investment decisions and implementation follow-up.

The launch of the fund comes as part of joint efforts between the Central Bank of Egypt, the Ministry of Industry, and several state-owned banks to support the industrial sector. The fund is expected to later identify the companies it will invest in and announce the details of reform programs for each company. The Amwal Al Ghad website reported the details of the launch and participating institutions.
