CMA CGM Completes $1.4 Billion Acquisition of FedEx Logistics

French group CMA CGM has completed its acquisition of FedEx's logistics business for a total enterprise value of $1.4 billion, according to a statement from the transaction's legal advisor. The group will integrate the acquired business into its owned logistics arm, CEVA, which operates within the group as a specialized arm in freight forwarding, warehousing, and distribution services alongside maritime transport.

The combined operation adds approximately 150 facilities and nearly 3.2 million square meters of warehouse space, along with around 10,000 employees. These assets expand the group's presence in warehousing, inventory management, and domestic distribution services—services for which it previously relied on external contractors, giving it greater control over the supply chain it serves.

The deal was announced on July 1, 2026, before being completed on October 1, 2026. Its completion comes at a time when the group seeks to transform from a purely ocean shipping company into an integrated logistics provider covering transport, warehousing, and delivery.

This trend reflects a broader shift in the shipping sector, as major companies move to own full links in the supply chain rather than merely transporting containers. This expansion reduces companies' reliance on external intermediaries, gives them greater control over costs and delivery times, and mitigates the connection of their revenues solely to fluctuations in ocean freight rates.
