Singapore Convention on Mediation to Take Effect in the UAE in April 2027
The Singapore Convention on Mediation will come into force in the UAE on April 8, 2027, with reservations excluding government agreements and requiring explicit consent from the parties.

The UAE acceded to the Singapore Convention on Mediation on October 8, 2026, and the convention is scheduled to enter into force for the country on April 8, 2027.
The UAE formulated the two reservations provided for in Article 8 of the convention, according to the official treaty page.
Under these two reservations, the convention will not apply to settlement agreements to which the UAE government or any of its agencies is a party, and will apply only if the parties expressly agree to its application.
The convention opens avenues for enforcing settlement agreements resulting from mediation in international commercial transactions, while the two reservations set clear boundaries for its application within the country.
What Do These Terms Mean?
