Saudi Arabia's Vrtx Raises $3.6 Million to Build Embedded Payments

Saudi startup Vrtx has raised $3.6 million in a pre-seed funding round, with participation from SC Ventures, Sadu Capital, BYLD, Suhail Ventures, F6 Ventures, TAZ Investment, and Palm Ventures, according to Wamda platform.

Founded in Riyadh in 2025, the company has received in-principle approval from the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) for an Electronic Money Institution (EMI) license, according to the source.

Vrtx is building infrastructure for embedded wallets, payout payments, cards, and transfers; these services allow companies to embed financial functionality into their products rather than building standalone payment systems.

The in-principle approval from SAMA represents an important step toward enabling the company to offer its services within the regulatory framework of the Saudi market, while final licensing remains pending.

What do these terms mean?

Pre-seed: The first round of funding a startup receives before the seed round, typically used to build the initial product and team.

Embedded Finance: Offering financial services such as wallets, cards, and transfers within a non-financial application or platform instead of a standalone banking app.

Electronic Money Institution: A regulatory license that allows a company to issue electronic money and provide payment services under central bank supervision.
