Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced on Friday that it targeted a large LPG tanker in the southern part of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that it was crossing via an "illegal route" not recognized by Iran. It explained that a fire broke out in the engine room and propulsion system, forcing the vessel to stop.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) stated that a vessel was struck by an unknown projectile approximately 13 nautical miles off the coast of the UAE, and that the fire was later extinguished, but it did not confirm whether it was the same ship mentioned by the Revolutionary Guard. Reports indicated that the tanker is known as "NV Sunshine," with differing accounts regarding its owner.
The Revolutionary Guard stated that it now maintains operational control over navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that its actions against vessels using unauthorized routes will not be limited to the strait, but will extend to any ship doing so in the region. The Revolutionary Guard held the United States responsible for escalating maritime tensions.
In Washington, President Donald Trump said a major announcement regarding diesel is on the way, as U.S. diesel prices remain near record levels after rising by nearly 70% since the start of the war on February 28. Reuters reported that Trump is expected to issue a directive in the coming days instructing departments to take measures to control fuel prices.
