NASA awards SpaceX $946 million to extend Crew Dragon flights to 2030
NASA has expanded its contract with SpaceX by $946 million to cover three additional flights aboard the Crew Dragon capsule to the International Space Station until 2030.

NASA has awarded SpaceX a $946 million extension to its current contract, which includes conducting three additional flights to transport astronauts to and from the International Space Station, extending the partnership commitment between the two sides until 2030.
These flights fall under the Commercial Crew Program, which established a strategic partnership between NASA and SpaceX since the U.S. space agency moved away from reliance on Russian Soyuz spacecraft to transport astronauts, making Crew Dragon the mainstay of American human spaceflight.
This extension reflects NASA's continued confidence in the reliability of the Crew Dragon capsule, which has so far executed a series of successful missions, despite tensions that marred the partnership during the Astia mission, whose astronauts' return was noticeably delayed.
As the lifespan of the International Space Station approaches its scheduled end by 2030, these three additional flights represent part of the final phase of station operations, alongside NASA's preparations to transition to private commercial space stations that will replace it.
