Transpacific container freight rates have risen to high levels, according to reports, reaching $7,960 per FEU westbound from Asia to western North America, while estimated at $11,259 per FEU eastbound.
These rates reflect accumulated pressures on global supply chains due to the rerouting of shipping away from the Suez Canal and the Red Sea, increasing demand for transpacific lines and significantly raising their costs.
Transpacific freight rates are closely tied to demand for Asian exports, particularly Chinese electronics, textiles, and consumer goods bound for American and European markets.
Analysts added that freight rates rising to these levels weigh on import costs for manufacturers and merchants globally, as shipping costs are ultimately passed on to end-consumer product prices, according to reports.
Freight markets expect further pressures as the peak demand season approaches in the fourth quarter of the year, accompanied by an acceleration in stockpiling and restocking by major U.S. and European retailers.
