Copper Rose to Around $6.58 per Pound, Recording a 47% Surge Compared to Last Year

Copper traded near the level of $6.58 per pound, registering a 47% increase compared to the same period last year, in an exceptional performance that reflects the radical shift in the demand dynamics of this strategic metal.

This rise comes amid escalating demand for copper from clean energy, electric vehicle, and power grid sectors, as copper is a vital material in electrical conductors, lithium batteries, and charging stations.

Re-industrialization and infrastructure development policies in the United States, Europe, and China add further upward pressure on demand, at a time when supply remains constrained due to a lack of investment in new production mines.

Copper is considered a reliable gauge of the health of the global economy, earning it the nickname "Doctor Copper," as its prices reflect global industrial demand expectations and the trajectory of economic growth more accurately than many other indicators.

What do these terms mean?

Copper: A malleable red metal with excellent electrical conductivity, widely used in the electrical, construction, and automotive industries, and considered one of the most vital raw materials in the clean energy economy.

Electric Vehicles: Vehicles that rely on electric motors instead of internal combustion engines, consuming 3 to 4 times the amount of copper used in conventional cars.

Pound: A unit of mass measurement used in pricing base metals in U.S. markets, equal to approximately 453 grams.
