SpaceX has acquired Anysphere, the parent company of the AI coding tool Cursor, in an all-stock transaction valued at $60 billion, according to Crunchbase. The deal represents double the $30 billion valuation Cursor achieved in November 2025, making it the largest startup acquisition in 2026.

Cursor had crossed an annual run rate (ARR) of $1 billion, after raising a total funding of only $3.4 billion over four years from major investors such as a16z, Thrive Capital, Accel, and Coatue. This deal gives SpaceX a leading position in the AI-powered coding assistant market, an intersection where artificial intelligence meets software projects worldwide.

The acquisition represents an extension of Elon Musk's expansion across his tech portfolio, which includes spacecraft, platform X, and xAI, as he now enters enterprise software. At the same time, the acquisition creates a competitive opening for Cursor rivals like GitHub Copilot, Windsurf, and Replit, as enterprise customers question the impact of the new ownership on their data, service pricing, and future development roadmap.

This acquisition forces software development teams in the Arab region to conduct a necessary review of their use of Cursor and its alignment with corporate compliance policies under the new ownership, while creating investment opportunities in competing tools whose competitive story has become more compelling.

What do these terms mean?
