Lufthansa Increases Fuel on Flights to Frankfurt Due to Supply Shortage
Lufthansa has increased fuel amounts on its Frankfurt-bound flights as a precautionary measure following a drop in pipeline capacity, capped at 8 tonnes per aircraft.

German airline Lufthansa has increased the amount of fuel carried on its aircraft prior to flights bound for Frankfurt as a precautionary measure following a decline in fuel supplies.
The drop is due to reduced capacity in a pipeline supplying Germany's largest airport, prompting the airline to adopt fuel tankering prior to landing.
The company requested pilots on selected routes to implement this practice, with a cap of 8 tonnes of extra fuel on Airbus A320 family aircraft, mostly on short-haul flights.
For its part, airport operator Fraport described the pipeline work as routine maintenance and stated that the airport's operational capacity was not affected.
What do these terms mean?
Fuel tankering: Carrying additional fuel from the departure airport to minimize fuel purchases at the destination airport.
Pipeline: A pipe that transports fuel or materials over long distances to airports and terminals.
Operational capacity: The airport's ability to receive and operate its flights at the usual volume without disruption.
