International Institutions Expect Kuwait's Economy to Grow by 3.9% in 2026

Prominent international institutions, including the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, projected that Kuwait's economy will grow by 3.9% in 2026, a marked improvement compared to the previous year's performance.

These positive expectations are based on a combination of higher oil revenues amid reasonable prices, rising government spending on infrastructure, as well as growing private sector activity.

Kuwait seeks to diversify its income sources away from reliance on oil under Vision 2035, by developing the tourism, finance, education, and manufacturing sectors.

Analysts believe that achieving this growth rate depends on the continuation of structural reforms and improving the business environment. They emphasize that boosting the productivity of the non-oil sector is key to sustaining growth in the long run.

What do these terms mean?

Gross Domestic Product (GDP): The total value of all goods and services produced within a country in a year, and it is the most common measure for gauging the size and growth rate of an economy.

Economic Diversification: A strategy through which oil-dependent countries seek to develop other economic sectors beyond oil to reduce reliance on it and protect the economy from price volatility.

Kuwait Vision 2035: Kuwait's long-term national development plan aiming to transform Kuwait into a regional financial and commercial hub with a diversified economy by 2035.
