Kuwait's Economy to Grow 3.9% in 2026, Below Gulf Average, Sheltered by Its Oil Wealth
Kuwait's economy is projected to grow by 3.9% in 2026, falling below the GCC average, while its vast oil wealth provides a financial cushion that eases structural pressures.

Kuwait's economy is expected to record a growth rate of 3.9% during 2026, a level below the average growth expected for the GCC countries, as oil wealth continues to provide a massive financial cushion that enhances economic stability.
Kuwait maintains a high sovereign surplus thanks to the Future Generations Fund, which is one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world, giving the country an exceptional capacity to withstand economic shocks.
However, the slower pace of Kuwait's growth compared to its neighbors reflects long-standing structural challenges, including an over-reliance on the public sector for employment, delayed economic diversification projects, and a weak private investment climate.
Analysts are looking to see whether recent political shifts in Kuwait will lead to accelerating stalled economic reform programs amid growing pressure to reduce dependence on oil revenues. Kuwait's massive sovereign reserve remains a primary protective factor that dampens the incentive for reform in the near term.
