Stability of the Egyptian Pound Encourages Investment Institutions to Return to the Market

The stability of the Egyptian pound's exchange rate throughout the first half of 2026 contributed to restoring the confidence of institutional investors and encouraged them to increase their allocations in the Egyptian market, according to analysts and fund managers.

The Egyptian Stock Exchange witnessed buying inflows from foreign investors after a hesitation period that lasted for years, during which these investors took advantage of the declining currency risks that were one of the main deterrents.

A combination of factors helped achieve this stability, most notably the International Monetary Fund support agreements and foreign direct investment inflows, as well as the improvement of the central bank's foreign exchange reserves.

Some analysts warn that the current stability of the pound remains fragile unless accompanied by deep structural reforms in the economy. They emphasize that boosting non-oil exports is the true guarantor of currency stability in the long run.

Exchange Rate: The exchange value between two currencies; that is, how much foreign currency is given for one unit of local currency. Its fluctuation creates additional risks for foreign investors.

Foreign Exchange Risk: The loss that a foreign investor may incur if the currency of the country in which they invested declines in value, because their profits converted back to their original currency will be lower.

Portfolio Allocations: The percentage that the manager decides to allocate from the total fund to specific markets or sectors, and increasing it in the Egyptian market means injecting more funds into it.
