Oratomic Raises $475 Million 3 Months After Its First Round

Quantum computing company Oratomic raised $475 million in a Series B funding round at a $5.4 billion valuation, up from $1.5 billion in its previous round.

The round was led by ARK Venture Partners, Spark Capital, Khosla Ventures, Index Ventures, General Catalyst, and Bezos Expeditions, bringing the company's total funding to $775 million.

CEO Dolev Bluvstein told The Wall Street Journal that the company is building a large fault-tolerant quantum computer, targeting completion by 2030.

The rapid round comes just three months after the first round, reflecting investors' race toward quantum computing companies, which are expected to solve problems that classical computers cannot handle.

What do these terms mean?

Quantum computing: A type of computing that uses quantum physics properties to solve complex problems faster than classical computers.

Error correction: A technique used in quantum computing to reduce errors resulting from quantum state instability.

Series B: A funding round following the initial round, typically used to expand manufacturing and market reach after demand for the product is established.
