Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and UAE Minister of Investment Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi signed a memorandum of understanding in Riyadh regarding the interconnection of the two countries' electricity grids.
The memorandum covers electrical interconnection, energy exchange, and power sales between the two sides, in addition to railway connectivity, while stipulating the establishment of general principles and conducting technical, economic, and environmental studies related to the project.
The clause related to railways includes connecting freight transport between the two countries to support logistical integration and supply chain efficiency, at a time when both sides are working to expand land and rail transport networks for bilateral trade.
This development concerns citizens and companies in the Gulf, as interconnecting power grids means a greater capacity to exchange energy during peak demand and outages, while railways contribute to reducing freight costs and delivery times between the two nations.
