UAE Economy Records Growth Slowdown Following 2024-2025 Expansion

The UAE economy is recording a notable slowdown in its growth pace during 2026, following a strong expansion phase spanning two consecutive years, driven by rising oil prices, foreign investment inflows, and real estate sector activity.

Economic forecasts estimate the UAE's GDP growth to range between 3.5% and 4% in 2026, lower than the growth rates recorded in the previous period, amidst oil price pressures and declining global industrial demand.

The UAE relies on diversifying its revenue sources through the tourism, aviation, financial services, and technology sectors, which mitigates the impact of the oil slowdown; however, the decline in external demand casts a shadow over export sectors.

The International Monetary Fund indicates that the UAE economy remains among the most robust in the region, projecting a gradual recovery in growth to reach around 5% by 2027, driven by major infrastructure projects and the expansion of the non-oil sector.

Non-Oil Sector: It includes all economic activities not linked to oil production or export, such as tourism, trade, financial services, and manufacturing, which Gulf countries seek to develop to break free from oil dependency.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): It is an investment made by a company or entity from outside the country within it, such as an American company establishing a factory in the UAE or buying a stake in a UAE company, serving as an important source for technology transfer and job creation.
