Brussels Accuses KKR of Misleading It in Telecom Italia Network Deal
The European Commission sent formal objections to KKR regarding misleading information in the €22 billion Telecom Italia network deal.

The European Commission sent a "statement of objections" to the American firm KKR, accusing it of providing incorrect or misleading information regarding the extent to which long-term wholesale access agreements would be maintained during its purchase of Telecom Italia's fixed-line network.
The Commission had approved the deal, valued at around 22 billion euros, unconditionally on May 30, 2024, before opening a formal investigation in July 2025, according to Reuters.
KKR confirmed that it strongly disagrees with the preliminary allegations and will contest them, noting that the statement of objections is not a final finding of a violation.
If a violation is established, the fine could reach 1% of the company's total annual worldwide turnover, according to Reuters.
What Do These Terms Mean?
Statement of Objections: A formal document sent by the European Commission to a company outlining preliminary concerns of a competition rule violation, to which the company responds before a final decision.
Wholesale Access: The right of other telecommunications companies to use a major operator's network at regulated prices to offer services to their customers.
European Commission: The executive branch of the European Union, responsible for reviewing large mergers and enforcing competition rules.
