European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the G7 decision not to impose any energy export ban on allies, following a virtual meeting of the group's leaders. She noted that the decision comes alongside a coordinated plan led by the International Energy Agency to release 100 million barrels of diesel and other stocks over a four-month period.

A spokesperson for the Commission had said earlier the same day that the European Union "completely rejects" any ban on diesel, warning that it "would undermine our trust in the United States as a reliable partner." The European position is understood in the context of fears that restricting fuel exports could disrupt supplies and drive up prices within the European market.

The meeting reflects an effort to coordinate among major economies to maintain energy market stability, as it combines ensuring the continued flow of supplies to allies with pushing to release emergency stocks to ease price pressures. Diesel is considered one of the most sensitive derivatives, as it is linked to transportation, shipping, and the industrial sector.

Market traders are awaiting details on the timeline for releasing reserves and the path of coordination among countries, as the volume and speed of the release determine the extent of its impact on global diesel prices, which directly affects transportation and shipping costs touching the region's economies.
