Gold Falls 3.18% to Settle Below $4,454 per Ounce

The spot gold price fell by 3.18% in a volatile trading session, settling near levels close to $4,454 per Troy ounce, recording sharp selling pressure driven by a wave of strengthening US dollar and rising government bond yields that reduce the appeal of non-yielding assets.

The decline came following statements from US Federal Reserve officials indicating the possibility of keeping interest rates higher for longer than expected, raising the implicit cost of holding gold compared to bonds that provide a guaranteed cash yield.

Investors in the Middle East region are closely following these developments, as gold forms an essential part of personal wealth and household savings in the Gulf states and the primary source for the jewelry industry in Egypt, India, and Turkey.

Analysts believe that the $4,300 support level represents the real battleground for gold, and breaking it downwards could trigger an additional selling wave, while geopolitical tensions and central bank demand remain supporting factors preventing a sharp collapse.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Spot Gold: It is the price of gold traded in global markets for immediate delivery (within two business days). It differs from gold futures contracts, which determine the delivery price at a future date.

Troy Ounce: A unit of measurement used exclusively for precious metals such as gold, silver, and platinum. A Troy ounce equals approximately 31.1 grams, slightly less than a regular ounce (28.35 grams).

Bond Yields: The annual profit received by the buyer of a government bond. When yields rise, investing in bonds becomes more attractive than gold, which pays no interest, leading to a decline in demand for gold and a drop in its prices.
