Switzerland Releases 30 Million Liters of Jet Fuel for Zurich Airport
Switzerland has authorized the withdrawal of up to 30 million liters from compulsory jet fuel stocks for Zurich Airport until November 1, due to rail delivery delays.

The Swiss government has authorized the withdrawal of up to 30,000 cubic meters, or about 30 million liters, from compulsory jet fuel stocks to cover the needs of Zurich Airport.
The decision takes effect on October 15 and continues until November 1, 2026, with the withdrawn fuel representing about 6.5% of the country's available compulsory jet fuel stock.
Authorities attributed the decision to delays and cancellations of fuel deliveries by rail, especially from Germany, due to low water levels in the Rhine River.
The measure aims to ensure the continued fuel supply to the airport and prevent any disruption to flights during the reserve stock usage period.
What do these terms mean?
Compulsory stock: A quantity of fuel that the state requires companies to keep as a reserve to cope with supply disruptions.
Jet fuel: A type of fuel specially designed for jet aircraft engines.
Cubic meter: A unit of volume equal to one thousand liters, used to measure large quantities of fuel.
